Sura desert makes up the bulk of desert island Miatias. This ecoregion is arid, but has two seasons of rainfall, making it a fairly "green" desert. The seasons here are different but still distinct in their own ways:
- Spring, when one can see many cactus and other plants in bloom. Temperatures are warm, it's windy, and it's almost always sunny and very dry.
- Summer, better known as monsoon season, when clouds gather over the mountains throughout the day until a spirited wind and thunderstorm descends upon the valley. Temperatures can be as hot as 46°C. Leafy plants spring to life and bloom.
- Autumn, when the monsoons end and hot and sunny temperatures continue but nights become cooler.
- Winter, when the nights get down to nearly freezing, with mild daytime temperatures and occasional gentle, cold rain.
The Orowa river runs down the heart of the Sura desert, and several Miatian villages rest on its banks and rely on its water. The Matasana mountains to the West and Idelelo Mountains to the Southeast cradle the valley most of Miatias lives in. While there's no canopy as one might find in Silkkassan forests, there are Saguaro forests- massive cactus can be found over much of the landscape. There are trees- palo verde and mesquite primarily, but these trees stay relatively short. Mountains, also known as sky islands, have milder climates and offer an escape from summer heat. The climate at higher elevations resembles certain parts of Silkkassa with mixed deciduous/coniferous forest.
The Sura desert is also home to Venido canyon, a breathtaking geological feature with a branch of the Vidai river running through it. In one secret alcove, one can find the Sonoaiti dreaming pool guarded by Aiti Vesper.
