How Vocations Work

Vocations are jobs your elkh can perform to earn gildes and crafting materials. Once they have learned their vocation, they will unlock daily drops for you to collect that will include crafting materials associated with that vocation. Crafting materials can then be used to make new items, or they can be sold in your user storefront. With various elkh doing different jobs and reselling their findings, there should be enough materials on the market to make new things.

Example: Crafting items one can find in the Magicker Drops Bag.

Wild Elkh vs Domestic Elkh Vocations

Wild elkh have few vocational options compared with Domestic elkh simply because they don't live in the village. Wild elkh can join the Magicker, Ranger, or Forager vocations; Domestic elkh can join any of the vocations except Forager. The distinction is only made by which Faction your character is in (Wild Pact/Desert Trail vs Village Stories/Oasis Dreams), however, you can change factions anytime (you will lose any earned rank points, however).

Domestic Elkh require Village Stories or Oasis Dreams prompts through #4 to be completed in order to earn their work permit before they can do the vocation prompt.

Wild Elkh require Wild Pact or Desert Trail prompts through #4 to be completed in order to earn the wild speak skill, then send in a claim for a work permit before they can do the vocation prompt.

Aitielkh cannot join a vocation (they are above doing labor for humans and have no need for gildes).

Earning a vocation also earns your elkh a wooden badge with their vocation burnt into it.

An Alternative "Vocation"

Those who take an alternative route in life may find camaraderie under the flag of Illicit Activities! These delinquents must complete several prompts to earn their place among practiced criminals, but when they do, they'll find daily stolen drops (crafting materials) and have access to The Black Market. There, in addition to a companion and enchanted accessory recipe, is  a unique recipe: Ill Gotten Gains. A bag of stolen goods could contain just about anything...!

  • Illicit
    • Thieves, bandits, pirates, etc.
      • Materials: nails, bones, metals, catalyst
      • Recipes: Key to the World, Bandits Buddy, Ill Gotten Gains
      • Weekly access to currency loot bag (one per player per week regardless of how many illicit vocation elkh owned)

Illicit 'vocation' participants do not need a work permit and do not need to complete storyline prompts! Instead, they have their own set of three prompts to complete.

The Royal Guard

Elkh who have experience in Civil Duties may choose to use their experience serving the kingdom to train to become a Royal Guard member!

Royal Guards have two prompts they can complete for special rewards.

The first Royal Guard prompt grants your elkh Royal Guard Gear, an official accessory which is freely customizable, automatically upon completing the necessary prompts, along with their Royal Guard Vocation Badge.

The Royal Guard Vocation Badge provides access to the Royal Guard Vocation Shop in which the elkh can collect a weekly stipend (this is limited to one stipend per week per player regardless of how many royal guard members you own).

Royal Guard members continue to receive Civil Duties drops daily & continue to have access to the Civil Duties Vocation Shop.

The second Royal Guard prompt grants your elkh the Royal Guard Helm, and enchanted accessory that appears to be just a helm but can summon the entire set of armor at will. In canon these Royal Guards are considered fully fledged knights and may have leadership positions.

Crafting

Items that can be crafted from recipes available to the Scholar Vocation.

The materials earned by a working elkh can be used to craft new items. Once at least one of your characters owns a work permit, you will have access to the recipe shop, where you can buy recipes to make traits, companions, and accessories! You will likely need to trade with other users or browse the user shops to find ingredients you need, or have multiple elkh with different jobs to provide different drops.

Enchanted Accessories

Some vocations have recipes for exclusive restricted trait potions, and some vocations have recipes for enchanted items. Enchanted accessories are items which a magicker has imbued with a magical "soul" of sorts. Generally these are items which will help the elkh do their job. For example, a scholar can craft the Scholars Quill which will write on paper for them.

Vocation Companions

Each vocation has a corresponding companion. They don't necessarily provide help, but some of them may, such as the Guard Terrier who will chase off any would-be thieves! The Tealwing Hawk could help a ranger spot someone lost, or take to the sky to track prey for a hunter.

Vocation Shops

Each vocation has its own associated shop. Gain access to the shop by earning the corresponding Vocation Badge. If you earn multiple vocation badges with different characters, you'll have access to each of the shops! These shops are where you obtain the recipes associated with vocations, as well as sought-after retired accessories. There is also a Vocation General Shop in which you can buy crafting materials and more recipes; gain access to this shop by owning a Work Permit!

Q&A

Q: Can my elkh have more than one vocation?

A: No; they may have only one vocation at a time.

Q: Can my elkh change vocations?

A: Yes; you may do the Vocation Specialization prompt with the same elkh again to earn a different badge. Their previous badge will be deleted, as will your access to the drops it provided, which will be switched out to new drops.

Q: Do elkh keep their vocation if they are traded/resold?

A: No; any faction points and vocation will be lost if the character changes hands.

Q: Do elkh keep their vocation if they change factions?

A: Depends! The elkh may keep their work permit; if their new faction doesn't match with their vocation, they will need to do another vocation specialization prompt to earn a new vocation.

  • Example A: A Village Stories elkh switches to Wild Pact. Their vocation was Civil Duties. They can no longer perform their duties in the wild; they would need a new vocation that aligns with Wild Pact such as Forager or Ranger.
  • Example B: A Wild Pact elkh switches to Village Stories. Their vocation was Ranger. Because Ranger can be performed by domestic AND wild elkh, they can keep their vocation without issue.

Q: Can aitielkh, fawns, shroomkin, habapi, or humans have vocations?

A: No; this feature is strictly for elkh (bepotelkh and sonoelkh).

Q: If my elkh has already previously finished at least 4 of the Storyline prompts, can they go straight to the Vocation Specialization prompt?

A: Yes!

Q: If my elkh design came with a Work Permit, can they go straight to the Vocation Specialization prompt?

A: Yes!

Q: What if my elkh becomes an aitielkh after gaininig a vocation?

A: If an elkh decides to become an aitielkh, they leave behind their past life, including any vocation they may have had. Any items or companions earned will of course be kept; the vocation badge and drops would be removed, and access to the vocation shop would be lost.

Q: Individual vocations drop specific materials. How can I get other crafting materials?

A: A couple of ways:

  • Crafting materials will be in the Daily Calendar occasionally
  • Anyone with at least one elkh with a work permit has access to the Vocation General Shop where you can buy a limited number of crafting items with gildes every month
  • You can access multiple vocations & their associated drops by doing prompts with multiple elkh
  • Users are encouraged to utilize USER SHOPS to resell unneeded materials
  • Users are encouraged to use the DISCORD SERVER to trade materials with other users
